tragos:

I received some good news a couple days ago. The most recent issue of the journal Criticism has published an entire issue devoted to the TV show The Wire. As some of you might now, Tragos HQ has long endorsed Simon and Burns’ depiction of an American city surviving but not thriving in the naughties. As some of you might also know, I’m a bit obsessed with another city: Athens in the 5th century BCE.
I wrote an article on both titled, “Greek Gods in Baltimore: Greek Tragedy and The Wire.” (It’s under my other name, not Tragos, regrettably.)
The Wire’s creator, David Simon, once claimed the show had roots in Greek tragedy. When I read that, I couldn’t help asking the question: what the hell does that mean, exactly?
If you’re interested and you have access to JSTOR, you can find the article here. If not, please feel free to drop me a line at tragos12 AT me DOT com. I’ll see what I can come up with.

Finally, my student status pays off.
